Absolutely stellar narrator, voice actors, sound design, and storytelling. I can’t recommend this enough. Masterfully done.

This has been a great Podcast series! I started off thinking that I’d only listen to the episodes that cover the history I’m interested in but I loved the immersive atmosphere it’s created and decided to listen to the rest of the series. I’ve learnt loads! Thank you Holy Smokes! Would love to...Read full review »

These are wonderful podcasts and well produced. I hope the WW2 German invasion of Russia will be covered in the near future.

This isn’t something to have on in the background. This is immersive and an audio experience. Headphones required. Would love to get another season. I love my history pods but this is a refreshingly different approach that works.

Just finished Korean war and if your only reference is "M.A.S.H", you might want to listen. Salute to the fallen.Read full review »

Seriously very good show. Love it and a must listen!

Well done and the final few minutes of each section are very insightful. I think the team would well serve their listeners if they spent more time on that bit. These are wars that shaped the world, so discuss more the longer term implications of the battles.

These podcasts are dramatic, compelling and bring the voices of the participants to life. If that’s what you want you’ll love them. The only drawback is the sometimes dodgy accents of the voice actors, which can be distracting.

I Enjoy this and find it informative and entertaining which is a rare combination. May not suit everyone but do give it a try.

I don’t know what these guys problems are the sound effects add so much to my imagination You guys keep going I hope to hear more

Different voices + use of sound effects are not volume equalized which makes it hard to listen to some parts and then others are too loud. But good content.

Great show. I look forward to every episode. The mix of effects and voice actors brings the stories to life. Well done.

Annoying endless sound effects make it painful to listen to

Historical podcasts that keep you interested while also giving you information are few and far between. First hand accounts with great narration make this stand out. As a big history buff, I can only hope they continue this for years. Caesar knows there’s plenty of wars that shaped this world!

I enjoy this podcast. It’s well researched and well made. My only frustration is that the broad umbrella term Commonwealth is used too often and the focus is overwhelmingly on British and US forces and efforts in every discussion of ‘allied’ fighting. The Battle of Kapyong which earned the...Read full review »

Really enjoyed the way the stories are told in tandem with the audio effect and news clips. Appreciate the level of artistry used and the sound bites from the different sides involved.

A lot of audio effects- great if that is what you are looking for. Good narration but audio takes up a lot of time and can be distracting

This podcast is beautifully done. The use of audio submerges you into the action…best with headphones or earbuds

the history is spot on and the way it is presented is almost like being there. The new tecniques used make it so real. A 20 year vet i can say it was scarry at times to just to listen as it brough back memories. Higly recomended and a great job by the cast ad a big thank you to the producer

I don't normally write reviews, but in this case I decided to, in response to some of the silly reviews about "needless sound effects." I have no idea what would lead them to complain, but the voice acting and the production, including all the sound effects, give the podcast...Read full review »

They need to chill on sound affects and voice acting. But it’s over all a good podcast to listen to when I’m bored.

Content is great but the amount of background noise and production almost ruins it.

Great podcast! Love the use of sounds and voices to make it a much more immersive experience than most podcasts. Lots of fantastic information and something I look forward to every week. Brilliantly put together, well done to all of you who have worked on this 👏

This is so good! Production, writing, voice acting, sound design, all world class! It’s criminal that this isn’t more popular
sisanf via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 12/09/23
Good content but you don’t need all the loud sound effects, out of context yelling, and bad accents. Just tell people what happened. Stick to the facts. It’s a podcast about history, not a TV show. How many times do I have to say it? Knock it off with all the sound effects? This is a podcast,...Read full review »

I like the sound of the voice actor and added sound effects. I abandon so many podcasts for the low production value, and this won’t be one of them.

Love the podcast. Very interesting and engaging. However, most of the American accents are so bad, I laughed out loud multiple times. Is this really how Brits think Americans sound. Amazing!
