“Though I don’t work in creatives, content creation, or advertising, I still found this episode very insightful. As someone who is in their mid 20s and works in consulting, navigating client relationships is something that I’m still getting the hang of. Anyone in a similar position (offering a service to someone) could benefit from giving this a listen. I appreciated Mike’s comments on expertise not being a requirement for leadership. Through this philosophy, I feel myself reflecting on examples of this with my current client and know it will remain in the back of my head when I move on to my next project. I also found Mike’s comments and attitudes towards RFPs refreshing, it really is such an old way of working that results in so much work that could potentially be for nothing - questioning the value that truly adds is an important conversation. I think Mike also provides great advice on ensuring you scope your offerings and commitments accordingly. “Smart deadlines” is a more effective way to utilize the “SMART” Philosophy as a whole. Being “everything to everyone” can be an ineffective strategy. This podcast was a good reminder to hone your craft and deliver quality service to clients you can build an authentic and meaningful relationship with. I think this is a contemporary revamp of the “raving fans” philosophy - I would recommend that book to people trying to define the offerings of their business. Thanks for the great episode!”
