More engagement needed.
I love the chosen topics and the guests are generally top notch; but I dislike the execution. Host Jeffrey Rosen winds up each of his two guests with an open-ended question. Each speech from each guest ends with the Jeffrey saying something like “Joe, that was a remarkably cogent and well considered synopsis! Jane, what do you think?” Then Jane gives her 2-3 minute speech and Jeffrey thanks her and asks a different question, then more speeches, more plaudits, etc. I find this format difficult to follow. The speeches are dense and need to be explained to the layperson. I’d like more engagement, more follow-up questions that are tied to the ideas of a given speaker. Something like “OK, Jane, but doesn’t that conflict with the basic rights set out in Gideon v. Wainwright?” Or maybe, “Jane, does 'outside actor’ in this sense mean anyone who isn’t part of the original case?”Read full review »

You have great guests. I appreciate how thoughtful, fair, and interesting this podcast is. Has the potential to be dry, but you keep me engaged as a listener. Relevant discussion points.
