Raw honesty, and brilliant storytelling
Just about speechless after listening to this. And in awe of Rachel’s strength, and her ability to look back so unflinchingly at her family’s brokenness. Also awed by Nancy Updike’s (and Rachel’s) accomplishment— how such a coherent and moving story was made from this crazy mess. Alcohol and domestic abuse are awful, and universal, but a deadly pandemic with no real public health safety net is a uniquely American travesty. I’ll be haunted by this story for a good long while.
