Just like newspaper you’ll find some articles you love and some you are not so interested in. I mostly listen to the all but occasionally skip the ones less appealing to me. Overall great content which have introduced me to some topics and people I may not have chosen. Given it a go and pause a...Read full review »

Consistently good and even when I’m really interested in a later story, listening through gives me an opportunity to learn and appreciate stuff that I’d otherwise bypass.

Love lying in bed with this podcast, even if I have read both articles on their news app.
HHSFD guy via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 12/10/23
It sounds like they’re using AI voices now which is off putting

It’s often very good but how hard can it be to put the right podcast content description under the right episode? Please do better. I’m a Guardian subscriber.

You are a beautiful person I am always so thankful and I know how I am thankful to be thankful to my heart but you can do so many years in life

Always a great listen and a welcome addition to my best podcast list.

Wonderful selection of readings - interesting and insightful. Something to look forward to every weekend.

It’s decent, but every story has to have a gender/ race/ deprivation angle. I thought this was a “weekend” podcast. It’s pretty dull because of that. Oh and please stop advertising the guardians pop culture podcast- sounds so vacuous.
bishop is dire via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/03/22
Weekend podcast is great but please stop adding the pop culture episodes in the weekend podcast. Pop culture podcast is dreadful. It’s not journalism, it’s not well researched, there is no depth. If I want to listen about how nice Rihanna is I can go on YouTube.

Worth a listen; diverse topics, well delivered, my weekly relaxation.
HoboTara via Apple Podcasts · Ireland · 11/11/22
The content was interesting but I was so irritated and distracted by the meaningless music playing the entire time along with the speech, that I gave up. Speaking as a professional musician, that is!
JHESW16 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 10/30/22
Love this podcast - gives a great summary of all the top stories and articles of the week. The voices really add colour to everything and I have often literally laughed out loud. Also the mix of topics keeps it super interesting and makes me explore areas I may not have read in the paper.

Great writing read in the style of a 2nd rate audiobook,

I love this podcast, it is one of my go to listens alongside, This American Life and The Moth Hour, no small thing. I consistently and painlessly take on new information on some subject every week, and find the items about Boris Johnston, which whilst they leave me reeling with disbelief, bring...Read full review »

I love listening to the weekend reading. A terrific was to pass the day!
Cazals82 via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 05/18/22
Love the idea of this and great articles but one particular narrator (she read the Met Gala article) is unbelievably dramatic and totally over the top that I found it cringeworthy to listen to. She would express such extreme anger when the tone of the article didn’t seem to convey that much...Read full review »

Love the stories - but the first two voices this week sound like their auditioning for an am dram! Please use ‘normal’ voices.
Beaugerie via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/07/22
Trivial, boring and superficial. Avoid!

Ads
I don’t mind ads so I’ll normally just listen to them rather than skip and I appreciate that they are important in making the show possible. What I don’t have time for however is ads cutting off a presenter mid sentence. I’m not even asking for the ads to be placed where it’s a good cut off...Read full review »

Found I couldn’t listen to the narrators vocals. Whatever the topics they just were so irritating I have not continued to be interested.

Top quality podcast covering very interesting subjects, I now can’t do without it.

Ever since moving abroad one of the things I’ve missed is the guardian weekend magazine. This podcast is the next best thing - intelligent journalism and hilarious social commentary- highly recommended
riotgrrrlabouttown via Apple Podcasts · Germany · 03/19/22
Love this in theory and want to keep listening but agree, do drop the accents. Not just imitating across cultures and dialects, but even the American narrator imitating a fellow American’s inflections was just wild to listen to. I also find the heavy rhetorical performance of the opinion pieces...Read full review »

A great way to catch up on some articles I may have missed or didn’t read over the week.

You simply must stop ith the accents during interview pieces.I barely even registered any of the Johnny Knoxville interview because the narrator’s half baked yeehaw accent was so off putting. It’s cringeworthy.

Great writing, interesting subject matter - just really not a fan of the impressions! You're never gonna do a good Will Arnett, so maybe just do a straight read instead ;)Read full review »

Good writing, nicely read. It’s a great way to showcase the best of the Saturday paper and makes for an interesting and entertaining listen. Hearing Marina Hyde’s pieces is a real highlight.

It can be tough to figure out the top articles to read when you don’t have time, this is a perfect way to get the most interesting stories while doing your Sunday chores 😉 Love it, great idea

Scamzum via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/13/22
Quite difficult to listen to the voicing on this, over pronunciation and slow. Strange as was expecting to love it.
lucylu522 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/12/22
Why are all the readers either American or using an American accent? Like the podcast, but a little puzzled by all the Americanisms.
Waltdog89 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/12/22
Seriously, have you learned nothing from when Apple tried to push an unwanted U2 album onto people? I don’t want this showing up in completely unrelated podcast streams, I’m not going to listen to it on principle and you’ve got a 1-star review now.

I actually didn’t catch the fact that this was supposed to be fiction when it aired. had i known I might've prepared my brain differently — still, I enjoyed a great deal. I’m not entirely certain why the riders are not the narrators. Maybe that’s just an American thing? That we read our own...Read full review »
