“Having dearly missed you on The Daily Show
(the Snakes story is my favorite), and having seen you from the front row on Friday--a birthday present saved up from January--I was delighted to discover this new podcast! I've been a huge fan since my son, in a bookstore, got that electric chill that means something's just right. He looked at *Born a Crime* and thought, "I have to get this for Mom!"
Please forgive me if this is self-indulgent, but I need to tell you: I may have looked like a white Minnesotan, but I'm not. I'm from Reno, my father was half English and half Paiute / Mexican, my mother's father was a non-religious Jew, and my husband, grown kids, and I are Sufi Muslims. Go figure. I have an MA in Intercultural Relations and taught Intercultural Communication for a number of years.
So I enormously enjoy your depth, your hilarious culture-crossing insights, your often mischievous humor ('Who me?'), and your greatness kindness towards everyone.
And you nailed it: In these times it's almost impossible for people who disagree to be friends or even to talk together sanely. It's a time of fear and intimidation, a time of 'Gotcha!' where many are afraid and others are furious, seeing their opponents as inhuman. Thank you for trying to address this mess!
We liked Duane the Rock a lot and look forward to what comes next. All blessings on this new and much-needed adventure!
