“I havent listened to the podcast yet because i didnt realize that it was the behind the scenes of a zoo. However, i am vehemently against zoos because of all the unethical treatment of the animals there. Im not saying yall are intentionally doing it, but by default it happens inevitably for certain animals who have more complex needs; there are so many stories about animals not having the proper space they shouldve had, dying earlier than they would’ve in the wild (for certain animals), lacking mental stimulation; the psychological torture of being caged. I mean i could go on, i think there was an article written specifically with the toronto zoo taken as example, asking whether it is ethical or not.
The problem with zoos is that it is inherently created to profit. You do give money for conservation. There is « research » being done there usually thanks to that money. But it is done at the expense of all these elephants and beautiful giraffes and animals that are living in tiny spaces who shouldn’t be in Canada. There must be another ethical way for that money and research to be made that doesn’t require these sentient beings to suffer? I’ve been to sanctuaries where their intent to is to release the animals and we only saw animals from Canada and not Africa. It was wonderful and inherently educational and we did pay them. Please go watch some documentaries detailing the psychological torment these animals go through. Nothing man-made can fulfill the animals’ needs and be made to be at a reasonable price for the customer as well. We are currently all in quarantine, THINK ABOUT HOW THAT FEELS. ANIMALS GO THROUGH THAT EVERYDAY. Do you think that is okay?
hope everyone’s staying safe and healthy :)”
