“LHOTP was the only TV we were allowed to watch as children for many years. My mother read the books to us when I was 5. This series was interesting fir many reasons and well done: enjoyable hosts, informative interviews, and thoughtful discussions.
My only note is, as a southern- and midwestern-educated person, I was well aware of the problematic aspects of then versus now. There was a bit too much clutching of pearls from the hosts who've come at the story without any lived experience in the areas depicted in the books. We performed plays about the midwestern history of the US by grade 5. Perhaps history is taught differently in the northeast and Canada.”Read full review »
