It’s sad to see the sorry state of BBC.

Great mix of subjects. Talking to people who were there, either live or via the amazing BBC archive. Well worth a listen
Guidingtracy via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/23/20
Mostly entertaining and informative but usual bbc anti war , anti sexism, blah blah wrapped up in the programmes.... neither impartial or educational in that sense just more London liberal metro elites talking about subjects in the way they like to ..

I love these because they are so short and yet still paint a picture of a specific time

The recent addition to advertisements to the podcast are annoying and disappointing. It was our favourite podcast until this happened.

...I could give this program 10 stars. Excellent, well-written reporting and use of archival and interview audio providing actual events and people in perspective.
Edward Esposito via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/21/20
This was one of my favorite podcasts. I usually like to listen to 5 or so in a row since they are short, but now they run a commercial before and after each one. I understand that they need to make money but the same commercial over and over and over and over has stopped me from listening.
Weldon with a tail via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/16/20
I love it, whilst I make tea or do a fast task I listen, it give me knowledge of things I did not live through from a first hand perspective. There is so many recent history that we miss in regular education or from other podcasts.

If it’s an event from within the United Kingdom hosted by a native English speaker with UK guests, it’s usually very good; the ultra-liberal bias, notwithstanding. If interviewing foreign fuests with heavy accents, can the BBC PLEASE add audio transcriptions from a Native English speaker, OR IS...Read full review »

Love love this podcast, excellent information but can they please be longer. Just Please.

Please stop playing government Brexit “advice” at the beginning and end of each witness podcast! It is insufferable and entirely irrelevant. It is an unbearable and inappropriate and is making the otherwise wonderful Witness series unlistenable.

This show used to be about history. Now all the episodes are about racism. Looks like they have a new editorial team.

Nicely presented story. I was struck by the person interviewed. He never once acknowledged those who liberated his country.

I thoroughly enjoy this Podcast and am very grateful that historical first person narratives are recorded here for future generations. I love listening to podcasts about history, but I’ve often found them to be too long to listen to while commuting, before bed, or on a walk (all the times when I typically find myself wanting to listen to a podcast). BBC’s Witness is informative, thoroughly researched, well-edited, easily...Read full review »

Great podcast if I want something short and informative to listen to. All kinds of amazing stories from the war in Iraq, to the creation of crop circles, to the time Belgium banned Coca-Cola. Great work BBC!

There are topics presented here that even a news and information junkie like me didn’t know about. I listen to atleast one, if not more, everyday! Little snippets of knowledge packed into each episode. I highly recommend it!

I’ve loved this programme since it started in 2009. This is my request for you to change the new logo away from the fluorescent type of lighting that triggers neurological difficulties like migraines and epilepsy. Sadly I will probably have to unsubscribe.

I love these. Not enough first-person historical docs. I enjoy the presence of context— and absence of editorial/ideological bent. Refreshing.

These stories are also in the hour long history hour podcast by the bbc, these are just snippets of some of the topics from that podcast. Good if you just want to gear one story and not an hour’s worth.

A near-daily treat of intellectual, international, historical tidbits that sometimes sadden, sometimes bouy, often illuminate, and nearly always expand my understanding of the feelings and facts of lived history. A near-perfect show. We should all hear what the voices of history have to say, and the BBC lets its subjects shine. Each show is about 10 minutes; soon you’ll be consuming the episodes like popcorn and going through the huge archive of past shows. I enjoy this podcast, but lately it, like all other BBC podcasts stops 3 seconds before the end. The next item on the playlist does not come on until I manually select it. This is a great nuisance in a 10 minute program

Great show. Shame it doesn't automatically download anymore - stopped on May 25th. Have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing to no avail. Manual downloads no longer include the descriptions as well. I always get a little fillip when a new podcast drops in. Hearing about momentous episodes of history from someone who was actually there is so engrossing and I’ve never heard a dull programme in the several years I’ve subscribed to this podcast. BBC at its best!

The first podcast I ever listened to was Witness and it’s the one I measure all others against. Interesting topics, well told and neither too brief or too long. I savour each one. Thanks to all the presenters and good it’s a mix of different personalities and backgrounds.
