Vick Hope is such a star
I met her once and was awestruck, but it was the merest moment at a wonderful, crowded, celebratory party. I had never listened to any of her work anywhere and had no idea how brilliant and flexible and sensitive her mind is, or how acute and articulate and musical and loveable she can be as an interviewer. Later I heard her interview here with Minnie Driver, who is absolutely formidable, no other word for it, and marvelled as Vick demonstrated all those talents. She was right up there with Minnie, every moment, every bit her equal. So now I’ve listened to her interview the wonderful Gabby Logan, and admired the way Vick reins herself right back, lets her subject, another genius at the microphone, do her stuff, just inserting the right prompts and responses at the right moments to punctuate and release the ready flow of revelations and insights. It’s like listening to a conductor bring the best out of a well-tuned orchestra. She’s clearly, simply, one of the great broadcasters. And she makes it all sound easy, and fun.

Good to hear people’s experiences and views. I like that it doesn’t give too much away about the books so if you’re going to read them you don’t have to worry about spoilers. Hosts are all really good too.

Great calibre of guests talking about far-ranging themes, and fabulous, cosy debates on books (with some super recommendations - my TBR pile has swelled since listening!)

So many interesting discussions. In 2021, when so many people think we live in a “Post-Feminist” world (Hell No!), this clever, charming podcast is a ray of sunshine. Very uplifting whilst also being real. Thanks!
