A 'poof' is a slur for a male homosexual, but can extend to any man whose manner or behaviour doesn't conform to what is conventionally regarded as masculine, and the word 'Poofta' made it's way into Australian slang and spread like wildfire, thanks to our homophobic Aussie forefathers.
