“"Inspiration" in that the four hosts are encouraging yet realistic. Writing for enjoyment requires attention, while writing to make a living takes dedication.
"Frustrating" in that after two years of listening to this podcast, I've concluded there are too many hosts.
The problem is apparent in the Marie Brennan podcast, and in most podcasts where there is a guest.
A question is asked of the guest. The guest gets a quick comment in. Then each of the hosts (people we hear from every week) get in a quick comment. Then Dan and Brandon have quips which derail the subject. In an hour podcast with midlist guests and hosts this would be excusable. This is only 15 minutes long. I want to hear what the best-selling guest has to say.
The episodes with Nancy Fulda seemed especially crowded. IMO she hardly gets a word in at all.
I've noticed that Mary works to keep the discussion on topic. I've noted Dan and Brandon seem to be reducing their quips.
Yet in a 15 minute podcast with four great writing minds + the writing guest + the Audible ad, most weeks I feel more frustrated than inspired.
The podcast is truly helpful. I just keep my finger on the fast-forward button.”Read full review »

“The writing excuses team has charm, charisma, class, and chemistry. Also, they totally know what they're talking about when it comes to writing a story. I appreciate their wit and honesty from their own real life experiences. I love that it's only (about) 15 minutes long because I'm...”Read full review »
