God podcast--limited perspectives
This podcast is a mixed bag for me. There are a lot of good episodes and some great advice buried in the archives. I certainly appreciate the short-length and the myriad of topics that get discussed as well. However, I find the podcast suffers from not having enough variety when it comes to the main cohosts. They all write very similar types of stories and while a lot of their advice can be applied across the board, I sometimes wonder how much the show could benefit from getting more diverse writers onboard. As writers (and readers), we all have our preferences, but I sometimes feel alienated when listening to the show because their is no breadth in diversity in genres (which is already such a loaded term, I know). I think this year's "elemental genres" topic is a good example. So far, all the elemental genres are specific to fantasy, science fiction, horror, mystery, etc...(and the year isn't over, so who knows how relevant my comment will be by then). None of these elemental genres can really apply to the majority of fiction genres. And I understand that you can't give advice about something you have know experience in, but I kinda wish they would bring some different cohosts to help supplement this. It isn't a bad podcast by any means. I do enjoy listening and I think the cohosts have valuable experience worth sharing. It just might not be always applicable to me.Read full review »

On the one hand, it does go into some interesting topics and gives solid advice for amateur writers--things that can save you much time, money, and heartache. On the other hand, it's also just a bunch of writers sitting around...Read full review »

Writing Excuses is my favorite fiction writing podcast and not just for "genre" writing. I love the fifteen-minute format, including a homework assignment at the end of each one. I also love the thoughtful structure of the past two seasons (10-11). Despite never having read the work of...Read full review »

I've been listening to Howard, Dan, Mary, and Brandon for over a year now. At first I kept skipping espisodes that didn't seem like they had anything for me, but now I rarely ever skip a show because even if most of an episode doesn't really apply to where I'm at in my...Read full review »
