“This podcast is a mixed bag for me. There are a lot of good episodes and some great advice buried in the archives. I certainly appreciate the short-length and the myriad of topics that get discussed as well. However, I find the podcast suffers from not having enough variety when it comes to the main cohosts. They all write very similar types of stories and while a lot of their advice can be applied across the board, I sometimes wonder how much the show could benefit from getting more diverse writers onboard. As writers (and readers), we all have our preferences, but I sometimes feel alienated when listening to the show because their is no breadth in diversity in genres (which is already such a loaded term, I know).
I think this year's "elemental genres" topic is a good example. So far, all the elemental genres are specific to fantasy, science fiction, horror, mystery, etc...(and the year isn't over, so who knows how relevant my comment will be by then). None of these elemental genres can really apply to the majority of fiction genres. And I understand that you can't give advice about something you have know experience in, but I kinda wish they would bring some different cohosts to help supplement this.
It isn't a bad podcast by any means. I do enjoy listening and I think the cohosts have valuable experience worth sharing. It just might not be always applicable to me.”Read full review »

“A great cast with some fantastic guests. I love the backlog and they updated their equipment so it sounds fab later on. I only wish the episodes lasted a tad longer as sometimes the discussion feels rushed or cut off. Enjoy!”

“For listening to the Writing Excuses podcast. Love the advice on the craft. Nothing repetitive and great explanations. It's great they switch up those who give the advice on writing. Thanks!!!”Read full review »

“Have not started writing yet, not sure that will even happen. Even though that’s the case this podcast is so entertaining and helps me appreciate the books I read!”
