Surely a parody?
I persisted with this because the subject matter interested me, but the main presenter is insufferable — a perfect parody of a certain type, the ex-banker/self-styled adventurer we’ve all been stuck with at parties or bumped into while living and working in what some people call ‘the developing world’. This is the type who actually has to be a banker to realise how awful the culture is. Then becomes a self-styled adventurer and patronises both the indigenous people and everyone else he ever encounters. The type who recreates the culture he claims to have grown to hate by bullying — sorry, ‘bantering with’ his friend. Listen out for how he adopts a sort of accented, broken English when talking to locals in Nepal and Tibet!
