The grounds of the cemetery is home to numerous unmarked graves from the Gold Coast's start as a town, due to an old main road being run directly through the centre of the graveyard. People would bury their loved ones in the field with wooden crosses, which would slowly degrade over time, leaving the graves unmarked and unknown.
