“I’m not usually a big fan of true crime podcasts, because it often feels like the stories are trying to capitalize on a crime being “cool.” Chris pushes back against that trend in the genre with Your Own Backyard. In this podcast, Chris starts right off the bat painting a portrait of Kristin Smart as a human being before at all exploring the case of her disappearance. At first, I didn’t understand why, but as the story has continued to unfold it’s clear that the reason he treated it this way is because Chris is fully invested and cares about this story and these people. He’s not just trying to succeed on the back of a tragedy. He is following the tragedy and the confounding injustices of a faulty justice system and a mountain of evidence against one suspect. Keep it up Chris!”
