“Negative reviews for this podcast will come in primarily because a) there’s a seemingly similar and well established podcast (Startup)
out there, and b) this one is run by two unapologetic women. But if Startup broke new ground on the idea of documenting starting a podcasting business, ZigZag blows the idea wide open and asks whether they can do not only that, but also tackle some
much bigger questions: Is it feasible to turn a profit while trying to effect social change? What is the role of cutting-edge blockchain technology in this? Can journalism be saved and have they stumbled upon the solution? Is there an ethical capitalism? What are the unique pressures on women when balancing sacrifices for work with family life?
No one else is out there doing this vital work, and it’s an insult to the nuanced, complex ideas Manoush and Jen are exploring to suggest otherwise. Not only that, but the production value is absolutely top-notch, among the finest I’ve heard as a person who has voraciously consumed podcasts since 2010.
I rarely give out five stars because rarely do good, thought provoking podcasts come out immaculately polished and purely enjoyable to boot, but I’d give this one six stars if I could. You ladies are changing the world and I hope you can hold on to that even in the many dark hours that lie ahead. I’m rooting for you with all my heart.”
