I am enjoying the storytelling, pace and the subject matter, but also finding it rather hard to feel too much sympathy for upper class women with dubious nicknames, Fipsi and Huey, who could afford therapy in their 20s.

Grace Hughes-Hallett has produced some of the best top class documentaries and coupled with Tortoise M this is a n1 world class listening. For me though, and that’s just me perhaps, I’m finding it a bit difficult to feel wholeheartedly sorry for these incredibly privileged women. Super posh...Read full review »

Just finished “Pig Iron,” reported by Basia Cummings. I have been jumping around the seasons and this was the 3rd, and by far the favorite season, so far. What a heartbreaking and fascinating story. As emotional as it was at times, I didn’t tear up until the closing quote by Christopher....Read full review »

Phenomenal podcast. You might think “I don’t really care about some exporter of illegal chemicals in the 80s,” but the creators of this show weave all their interviews and research into an absolutely gripping tale of how middlemen who supply brutal regimes escape from justice. It’s also a close...Read full review »

Ok
Starts well but last few episodes make it feel really unfinished, dots around

I’ve enjoyed this podcast up until this series. The amount of parents who are clearly unable in supporting their children and their feelings around identity is staggering. Why don’t you talk to any children or young people who are the children of these unsupportive parents? It’s clear the trans...Read full review »

I have thoroughly enjoyed all the tortoise podcasts, in particular the Gas Man and Sweet Bobby. But it must be so frustrating finding all this information and not always seeing justice play out!

Why did you only start to ask questions in the last episode? Only depicted from the ‘victim’s’ pov. She was complicit. This is lazy one sided journalism lacking in empathy and understanding.

They expect all this contrition from this random German guy. Meanwhile the American gov and the CIA sold weapons to Iran and Iraq during this same conflict at an industrial scale. If the Amber Heard episodes were framed as part of a study in online influence, etc, I would’ve been more prone to listen more. What I heard walks a very fine line at almost accusing the jury of misconduct by insinuating that they were swayed by social media and NOT by the evidence presented to...Read full review »

I listened to The Tavistock first and loved its calm, fair, measured reporting. I’ve now binge listened to all except season 11. Who trolled Amber Heard was a massive eye opener for me! It will help me be a much more discerning user of online content!

I don’t think I’ve ever written a podcast review. Maybe one. But I’ve been talking my husband‘s ear off about this all week. Absolutely fascinating and not what I thought it would be. A carefully researched story that brings together many different threads into an interesting, coherent story. The podcast elevates the Heard vs Depp story into something with global repercussions.

I used to love that podcast. While there is nothing wrong with promoting an opinion and conducting an investigation, this podcast seems to overlook the fact that there was a proper trial where Johnny Depp prevailed. Justice is more significant than personal opinions—continuing to use pieces from...Read full review »

Amber Heard’s unconvincing testimony doomed her in court regardless of what online campaign was waged. Ultimately this series is frustrating, misleading and kind of silly because this isn’t addressed upfront in the first episode. I’ve pretty much listened to all the series now and they’re all really well researched and fact based, and presented in as unbiased a way as possible. Just listened to season 10 (who trolled Amber). Excellent reporting and journalism. Even if you’re familiar with the trial and not on “Amber’s side” this podcast is about more than just that and unveils some troubling aspects of social media and bots that we should all be concerned about.

This is an important piece of journalistic work. In this day and age it is clearly dangerous to believe what you see on social media. I was constantly shocked by the support for Johnny Depp on social media - this explains so much. No doubt in my mind something fishy was going on. So sad for Amber Herd and how she was treated. Everyone who followed along needs to listen to this podcast!

Like many of the 1 star reviews, I actually watched the trial. Many of the 5 star reviews admit to not even watching it. I was so ready to root for Amber when the trial started but was so disappointed when the evidence clearly reflected the fact that Amber was the abuser in the relationship.

This was a great series. I didn’t follow the trial much but the social media blasts about it struck me as odd, even if I wasn’t engaging with the content it was served up on every channel. To say Amber lost because of bots is a red herring. Take all the bots’ opinions away - heck, take all legit accounts’ opinions away - and your left with Amber’s own words and the evidence at trial. This podcast feels like a pathetic media campaign attempt but I guess what else can she do?

More than disappointing. I switched off after first episode. May I remind you, Tortise producers, that the depp v heard trial was broadcast to US ALL…. those who watched it, in real time, NOT fragmented on TikTok or filtered through hateful lenses on either side, know exactly who the victim was here.
