Thank you for making this insightful podcast on one of my favorite movies of the nineties! I remember I saw it in the beautiful Tuschinski theatre in Amsterdam. (I’m Dutch so hearing Jan de Bont is really great) You went out of your way to get so many people who made Speed on your podcast,...Read full review »

What a fantastic podcast. I’m at the halfway point after discovering this about a month ago and can honestly say it’s a real eye/ear opener into the seemingly precarious world of Hollywood studio movie production. What comes through most often though is the genuine nature of the various players...Read full review »

What a show! Kris hit this podcast out of the park. It’s been an absolutely joy to listen to each week and to say it’s an in depth look at the movie Speed would be a major understatement. I was 19 when the film came out and I saw it at the cinema with a friend who I coincidentally saw so many...Read full review »

Turns out we all do and Kris Tapley has come to our rescue. I look forward to every episode and love the route it takes. I wasn’t even the biggest fan of the movie starting out but this has given me new appreciation for it, as well as so many other things. Updated: We reached the end and all I...Read full review »

Utterly essential listening, even for non-Speed fans!

There is life before, and life after, listening to 50 MPH. As a massive SPEED fan, this movie was a load-bearing column for 13-year-old me when it first came out and has become a cornerstone of the work I do in film and TV. What Kris has done here is nothing short of making an all-timer movie...Read full review »

Speed has been one of favourite films since I saw it at the cinema as a 14 year old, and it’s great that it’s finally being celebrated with such depth and passion. I particularly loved the Mark Mancina interview and his defence of themes in film scores.

Being a Gen X’er, I absolutely love this podcast and the look back at how old school action movies used to be made. Kris’ level of detail about Speed is awe-inspiring. I especially loved the early episode that discussed where Keanu and Sandra were in their careers right before, during, and...Read full review »

The depth of feeling and inquisitive insight into a movie I simply like, though not one I revisit very often, is ridiculously fascinating. Our intrepid guide Kris further proves himself as the expert journalist chronicling the many highs and lows of the making of this film. Highly recommended,...Read full review »

I love movie podcasts, but most of them are long one off episodes. This show scratches a completely different itch, 55 episodes about a single film. I’m sure it was a ton of work, but man does it come together. Since most streaming lack’s commentary tracks this should be a new sub genre.

I was 17. I just got my crappy car. Speed was in the theater. Instead of taking a friend, I asked my mom, which blew her away. That’s just one memory of many I have of this movie. It cemented my mom and me watching movies the rest of her life and exclaiming “oh darn” if either of us swore. I...Read full review »

Kris, mate, I just discovered this show after it being advertised on the Light the Fuse podcast, I had no idea it existed! I have been a diehard fan of Speed ever since I was a kid, I grew up watching it obsessively on VHS and on broadcast television. Whilst everyone keeps yapping on about Die...Read full review »

Deep dive into the oral history of an action movie classic. It’s also a revealing look inside the moviemaking process. A master class, even if you’re not a fan of Speed. But c’mon, who’s not a fan of Speed?

Speed is in my top five favorite movies ever. I was 12 when it came out and saw it twice in theaters, and dozens of times on VHS the week it was released. So yeah, I’m a big Speed head and it sounds like Kris is too. I look forward to this every week and I sincerely hope there’s a Mark Mancina...Read full review »

The amount of work that’s gone into this is incredible. I’m waiting for the episode where he interviews the guy that got the coffee on set. Fantastic stuff.

I’m enjoying this so much. When I heard about it even I, a die-hard fan of the movie, thought 50 episodes would be too much. But it’s such a treat to hear someone who loves it as much as I do dissect it in detail. Speed has always felt like the slightly odd child of the 90s action movies. It’s...Read full review »

Ugh, I mean maybe look beyond his IMDB page for a start. Just listening to these two idiots talking g about the American Friend and skipping over Apocalypse Now. Seriously? He made AN before AM. AN first film sober and remained so until his death which is why his roles changed.

So glad this podcast exists! Much like Kris, I feel like Speed deserves more recognition. I love this podcast! Thank you for making it.

This has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts as it perfectly captures the hectic nature in which a film needs to go through from conception, to green light, to being dumped by a studio. The amount of research and the participants that Kris the host was able to get is spectacular. I highly...Read full review »

In addition to being a loving look back at a movie classic, 50 mph is a fascinating peek inside at the workmanlike process of how studio movies get made, how a movie comes together because of a million different decisions that could go either way.

This isn’t just a podcast, it’s a fantastic oral history of the Making of Speed. It’s incredibily well researched and is a brilliant insight into Hollywood film making in the early 90s. There are good nuggets in each episode, but lots of repetitive intro/outro so far. Thinking this might be better as a binge after more episodes drop so listener can skip repetitive sections to get to new info in each ep.

Truly one-of-a-kind and beyond comprehensive work by Kris Tapley. As far as I’m concerned, this is the new gold standard for this kind of thing.

Kris Tapley, one of the best podcast interviewers out there and certified solid gold 90’s enthusiast doing a podcast about one of the very *best* 90’s action films? Buddy, I’m there.
