Good listen but…
Sayeeda Wasri is extremely impressive, calm, intelligent and able to articulate brilliantly. It is fantastic to hear a Muslim voice on a mainstream podcast putting their point of view in this way. As someone with no strong opinion on the debate I am eager to learn. The way David Baddiel speaks down to Sayeeda is awkward and he may not realise but makes him sound very ignorant. His defending of some very valid and broadly indefensible points about ‘his good mate’ Sacha is a great case in point. It may because of his own history of ‘blackface’ that he is sensitive to the topic but it is excruciatingly tone deaf. Be interesting to see if this podcast carries on - great to have the debate but I suspect DB may not have the heft for this type of debate in the long run. A more informed and reasoned approach is needed to do this concept justice.
