A Philosopher, not a Guru
After talking to a coworker about my interest in Eastern Philosophy, he suggested that I listen to this podcast. I can't tell you how much I appreciate his suggestion. Alan Watts never claimed to be a Guru that could lead anyone to enlightenment. He was a Philosopher who believed that in order to understand your own point of view, you must try to look at it from another point of view (or two, or three). And so he taught a variety of "points of view" with which one can examine there own life. He never claimed that any "point of view" was the right one. He never tried to change anyone. And yet, his non-effort caused many individuals to open their eyes to the truth. Lucky for all of us, many of his lectures were recorded. Watts beautifully puts in his own words and voice what it is to exist, and not to exist. Anyone with an interest in Alan Watts should check this out as a perfect introduction, and anyone who is already a fan will be delighted to hear Alans voice behind his ideas. Brilliant!
