“I've seen Gimme Shelter, read Keith's book, and studied the zeitgeist of the era. I think the narration could've been more artful and the way the story unravels is a bit scattered - I imagine there was more material that would have been a treat to include. This could've covered more episodes and a theme could've been explored, so hence it feels like a wasted opportunity. I don't mind Geoff's commentary but as the narrative progresses,
his analysis and observations become underwhelming as he spells out the task list add the day unravels. The addition of the family of the man who was shot added a welcome layer of context. As did Hunter S. Thomson, raw and uncensored. More Jerry Garcia and where was Keith? Just highly unorganized as a narrative. "Holding up a peace sign in front of Hell's Angel's holding pool cues." THESE ARE NOT MY PEOPLE.
That is the kind of sound bite that deserves more from the way this story unfolds- a tale of peace, love and something going wrong.
