Read the book if the actual history appeals
There's not much sadder in the modern media universe than a successful book stretched out over interminable podcast episodes that alternate actual research with endless lecturing and dubious "experts" on addiction, "19th century journalism", alcoholism, etc,. all of whom of course began as addicts, alcoholics or "survivors" themselves. Incredibly hypocritical in that it relentlessly merchandises exactly what it pretends to criticize!
