Ultra-absorbing
The point about this - as is made clear in Episode 4 - is that it’s as much about the impact of investigative documentaries (in this case, The Staircase) as exploring the case itself. It’s superbly meta in that way. There is a excellent sense of the place throughout and a real depth to the laying out of what happened. Warburton is quality but it’s the chats with his producer, the richly-toned and increasingly incredulous Mark, that really give it an extra dimension. Don’t just go into this thinking it’s like Serial - it’s not just about what happened in the case, it’s about so much more than that

Terrible, affected, repetitious. The same few snatches of audio repeated over and over. Pulls that trick of "you'll never guess how twisted we'll get next episode" whilst never getting there at all. Awful.Read full review »
