“This fascinates me both as someone who has a science degree and has done genetic research, as well as someone who doesn’t know my full family history. My father was adopted from an orphanage and he was estranged from me for over the last 14 years from his life. He struggled with the wanting to know as these people do. I don’t have that wonder. I can’t answer a few family medical history questions at the doctors office and I don’t care, that is what genetic testing is for, I may or may not carry those alleles any way.
A genetic sibling tried to contact our family and we want nothing to do with her. I see it as chemical molecules only and I share plenty of DNA with every living thing, even plants, and feel none of these emotional connections. My grandparents are my grandparents, DNA doesn’t matter much to me.
Thank you for this podcast on so many of the different views and making sure they are all told. I feel for those wanting privacy and anonymity. They deserve that. What is the difference from a woman who had a one night stand with several men and doesn’t know who the father is? They seem to get more anonymity than these men do. The sperm banks should be held responsible for full genetic research and making sure no illnesses are passed along as well.”
