Wickedly delightful
I LOVE this podcast! I can't get enough of the sly humor, or the surprising connections between historical fascinations and modern horror. Part of the delight of this show is the gleeful celebration of ideas that terrified and fascinated our ancestors. The host has this dry, academic delivery, but he builds audio backing that adds eerie ambiance and ghastly humor. Every episode feels like Halloween, or a seance, or a walk through a twilit bog. Oh, and the framing scenes with the servants quickly became one of my favorite serial dramas. When it's serious, this podcast is a deep dive into history. It is wonderful to see echoes of historical weirdness in our language and culture. This has given me a sense of history I never felt from histories of cities or nations. My commute is always brightened, and appropriately darkened, when one of these episodes is released.Read full review »
