Love your take. However, i think you may have missed a consideration in your analysis: Lebron might very well be aiming not particularly at the acquisition of a better supporting cast... it's the narrative that's important here. For that is the main stuff of legacy: forming the impression that he is being under served. His narrative to his fan base will portray him as the frustrated still superbly talented player who was let down by the front office. He is smart enough to know the situation in which the Lakers find themselves. Small wonder that lately he has even been more energetic on defence. As he makes a big splash by breaking Kareem's record, he then can exit as the one who despite giving his all received no help.
