Facing Lucius Balefire with a hostage and a swarm of mosquitos, the coterie had to act quickly. Everett wanted to talk, but Val immediately flung Pentecost’s body at Margery to get her clear, and Margery did not survive. Doris successfully stabbed Lucius with the Shaft, but he grabbed her and took off with her upward into the sky. With the Shaft of Belated Dissolution complete, it was only a matter of time before Lucius Balefire would arrive. Everett relented and let Doris hold the shaft to take the first strike, Evangeline encountered a vengeful mosquito, and the coterie soon found themselves in a firefight and pinned inside the building, with Val carrying an unconscious Pentecost.
