Armchair psychology
This show has a lot of interesting stories and I like the pacing. But if you’re going to have a show about cult psychology you need to have an actual psychologist. It’s totally not cool for Vanessa to present herself as a psychology expert if she doesn’t have any legitimate credentials, no matter how much “research she’s done for the show.” She should not be diagnosing people with borderline personality disorder or schizophrenia, and especially not without citing her sources (which she doesn’t do enough for my liking). This is my biggest issue with the show. The monotone voices don’t bother me, but the forced, scripted conversation does. I'm bummed, because I'm really interested in the subject matter from a historical and analytical perspective, but this show is all sensationalism and speculation delivered by bland, cable voice-over sounding hosts.
