The New American Bible is an excellent translation ...
... if one were to imagine Jesus talking to you now, today. Or if you were to be lucky enough to witness his presence today, walking down Times Square let's say, and you heard him speaking to you or someone else in the same way you read his words in the NAB. Would you prefer to have Jesus standing and speaking to you with a King James vernacular? Ha, definitely not. The New American Bible is an excellent translation. Most Bibles I have opened can be read to bring the personality of Jesus, and his life and times into perspective. Literalness can be a trap: you're stuck with one "key" to decide whether something is true or false, and you are always in arguement whether something is this or that way because of some semantic, syntactical idea. Jesus lived two thousand years ago. That was then, this is now. The miracles he did like no other are the real clincher ..., and so, now what? You want to hang on to the Greek as if how Jesus actually said something two thousand years ago is so important in the year 2008? Pedantics ..., so be carefull, and wise, in your journey and searching for meaning and truth in life. I can't get into biblical verses aired out of context to a situation, so I listen, but subscribing is not for me.Read full review »

When I saw this pod cast, I immediately subscribed. I listened, and then I cancelled. The New American Bible is simply not a good translation. It is, of course, "Gender SENSITIVE" and that means that some of the words were changed to satisfy the intense need of the American Bishops...Read full review »
