“Not exaggerating, this is a 4 star podcast without the girl. She's not only insufferable, but she's totally unversed in ASOIAF!
Just listened to the first episode. She is given the most hipster introduction ever as "the one who discovered the books before the TV show existed." Cool. Good for you. Do you want an organic gluten free cookie?
Ugh. Ok. At least you know your stuff, since you were a fan before the show. Wait, did you just pronounce Catelyn as Kaitlin, and repeatedly? Did you really, also repeatedly, pronounce King Robert Barratheon's name as "Barrthareon"?
And do you really not know the name of the continent across the Narrow Sea? You call it "The Big Other....Ethos? Eesos?"
What the hell is going on? This is supposed to be a podcast by RE-READERS. How do you not know the King's name? Or the name of the mother and wife of 6 of the main characters and a main character herself? HOW do you not even know the name of one of the ONLY TWO known continents in the book?
This is just the first episode! If you're already THIS lost, how are you going to talk about ADWD and AFFC?
Being dumb is bad enough. But she's also controlling, both in hogging the mic and in bossing the others around.
If she's still around in a few episodes, I'm done with this.
Look, this is not a nice review....but come ON! How can you expect readers to listen as if you guys "reread" the books if you're messing up simple names in the first half of your first episode? You even got Waymar Royce's name wrong -- and he's the very first character in the book!
I've read the books only once, and the above knowledge is quite literally the bare minimum for a reader to retain. You CANNOT expect listeners to actually listen to you as if you have the expertise of someone who has even read the books once, let alone twice.”Read full review »
