Devils Advocate Part II
OK I love having Carvell on the show, you guys have an excellent dialogue and I appreciate the perspective he brings, (particularly last week's discussion on divorce because marriage is so much bigger than I love you or not, particularly when you have kids, so thank you Carvell). HOWEVER, this episode's perspective was just so patriarchal. I was particularly outraged that he said it was not the letter writer's responisbility to make the decision about the asking, but the fiance should just decide to do it, which is completely dismissive of the letter writer's agency. She needs to decide if she cares enough about this to stand up for herself or if she doesn't. If she does care and decides NO, I do not want you to ask my father's permission to marry me because it is not his decision to make, then the fiance going and asking permission completely undermines her! Oh, don't bother the little girl with such stressful issues, just let the men folk sort it out. Additionally, they are engaged, they are a unit and they must present a united front. And while yes, the fiance needs to be mindful of his relationship with the in laws, he needs to be more mindful of his relationship with his (future) wife.Read full review »

These mini eps are awful...they never finish a question and just tell you to subscribe to the paid version to hear more. What a disappointment! I was really looking forward to this podcast. It has so much potential other than being an ad for Slate Plus.

I love this show! Mallory's a sharp and deep thinker with a wicked sense of humor and a huge heart. I want more and will be joining Slate Plus to hear it. Good content costs money, people!Read full review »
