A Link to My Past
Brett and Tim cover a wide variety of games and, probably like most listeners, I haven't played them all. But the ones I have played were some of the most formative experiences (gaming or otherwise) of my childhood and teenage years. It's rare to be able to listen to people experience classic games for the first time, especially in this much depth. Considering what some of the games mean to me, listening to Brett and Tim discuss their discoveries is often a genuine privilege. Moreover, they are able to engage with these games as veteran creators, which offers another rarity: the opportunity to receive new insights into games that I've played more times than I can remember. Nostalgia too often becomes mere sentiment. This podcast, however, manages to evoke the nostalgia of my gaming youth and give it new weight and meaning. As adulthood (and especially fatherhood!) has pushed games to the periphery, listening to Brett and Tim share their experiences, observations, and insights reminds me why I still love games.Read full review »
