Incredibly interesting
I discovered this, to be honest I'm not quite sure how. I think it's cause I was at work covering an event at a state park and decided to look up Port Arthur, since I'd been there and this state park reminded me of it. I love that it's just one long episode that lays out the history of everything, what actually happened and the aftermath. It's an unfortunate thing, but there definitely are a lot of episodes that can be done, especialy about American disasters. I'm sure it's definitely too soon, but reading about the Pulse shooting as a LGBT person, eventually that would be a very interesting episode. Someone else who reviewed said they hoped this would be less political, but I personally disagree. Because in this day and age, especially with this political climate, I think it's important to acknowledge facts for what they are. For example, I've heard many say the Pulse shooting wasn't because they were LGBT, but the reality points to that being the exact case. And with LGBT rights under constant attack, it's definitely worth a discussion. Of course not every episode would need to be entirely political, but it's definitely not something to shy away from, and I'm glad that Jennifer touches on it in some episodes. My only few comments would be this: I just finished the Bath episode, and I kept thinking it was my phone because her voice would get incredibly high or incredibly low and speed up and slow down, and initially I thought it was my phone. I think since then the quality has been better because I've not noticed it in later episodes. I would also say to keep in mind the quirks we have when we talk. I think someone may have told her because I didn't hear it at al in the latest episode, but often when she takes pauses in earlier episode she makes a clicking tick sound with her mouth that can kind of take one out of the material itself. Again, very interesting and I'm, I hate to say excited, but looking forward to more episodes. Some recommendations I have, and I made one of these already: -Eventually an episode on Pulse whenever it feels appropriate -It might still be too soon but Virginia tech is a possibility -(A bit on the nose but) the Hindenburg Disaster -Again, on the nose: Titanic -National Airlines Flight 2511 (crashed in my county in 1960, they think a man strapped explosives to his legs and that's what caused it) -the massacre at Deir el Bahri in Egypt in 1997 -I grew up in Kentucky, so the Heath High School shooting -On the nose: Columbine -Comair Flight 5191 2006 in my old hometown of Lexington, KYRead full review »

Jennifer is an excellent story teller and does her research. Audio quality could be better, but indie podcasts get a pass on that. Keep up the good work

The host does an incredibly thorough job of researching each disaster, and each episode either teaches me more than I'd already known about a disaster I'd heard about before or introduces me to a disaster that's entirely new to me. Early episodes of the podcast are a bit shakier, but...Read full review »
