Real conversations
Some interviewers interrogate, some confront, some compete. Robert Harrison converses; that is, collaborates with his guests on an exploration of the topic of the day, such that guests and host (and listeners) often come to new understandings, new ideas, new perspectives. He occasionally goes out on a limb and interrogates topics on his own, from Beckett to Jimi Hendrix. These shows are usually wonderful, though I prefer the conversations (though I'll qualify myself again and highly recommend the Beckett soliloquy). These podcasts are not intellectual parades; Harrison and guests are not show-offs. It sounds to me like he and his guests are still excited about their topics and no where near the end of their hopes for discoveries.Read full review »

I find Robert Harrison's opening monologues to be trite and frustrating because they add very little to the discussion. This is one of my top 5 favourite Podcasts. I am so happy I discovered it and I hope it continues for ever (ok, for a long time).
