Foster Wallace episode is torture
I'd just like to throw out there that his recent podcast about David Foster Wallace is godawful torture. The graduate student he interviews is just enamored with Wallace but isn't able to say so without mentioning ridiculously academic terms like "mobile synecdoches." Michael Hoyer teases the listener into thinking that he is going to challenge her to defend Wallace as one of America's greatest writers, but his challenge is weak at best, and her answers to his softball questions are incredibly up in the clouds. And as much as Hoyer fawned over her dissertation, and as much as she fawned over Wallace, I'm not sure I remember them reading a quote from either. Very disappointed.Read full review »
