Another point about buying used and reducing costs is receiving an additional bonus of not spending after tax dollars. When you spend $100 or euros you actually have to earn more than $100 to spend the $100. For example, if your tax barcket is 20% you have to earn $125 to spend the $100, so buying used actually gives an added $25 bonus. In CA the charity shops don't charge sales tax, there is an additional 9% savings by not paying the sales tax.
