“I had seen other documentaries about this case, but this podcast provides tons of new information about the List family I didn’t know before. One myth this podcast dispels was that the murders happened out of the blue, when in fact, there were many red flags. The interviews with people who were closest to the List family (Patti in particular) are honest, insightful, and heartbreaking; I really feel for these people who are still grappling with pain and survivor’s guilt 50 years later.
The narration, however, is awful and makes it really difficult to become fully immersed in the story, unlike (for example) “Up and Vanished,” “Crimes of the Centuries,” or even “Dead End” (another NJ Advanced Media production). Although they are clearly seasoned reporters, they sound like 2 girls gossiping over coffee. They also repeat the words “crazy” and “mind-boggling” over and over again… yeah we get it! Another frequent refrain is: “what we’re going to tell you next is crazy.” Just get on with it!!
I will definitely keep listening because I am enjoying the new information I’m learning about this fascinating story… I just wish someone else was telling it.”
