Adds a dimension to mental health advocacy
This show is therapeutic for me to listen to as someone who has dealt with/is fascinated by how the brain does “weird” things (disorders, conditions, addictions & compulsions). Therapy and research has taught me a lot, but the missing piece that put it all together for me was the acceptance and understanding of someone who had been there too. I couldn’t apply what I had learned if deep down I believed I was different/weird and “unfixable”. But that belief changed when I started talking to people who didn’t want to offer advice or “fix” me, but were happy to listen and relate to the things I was feeling (and let me do the same for them). This show is like that; I feel like I’m meeting so many people like me, whose struggle and recovery remind me that I’m not alone. Every episode I listen to gives me a brighter outlook toward the future of mental health advocacy and treatment :) thanks for everything!
