Love the Bookshelf in all its forms!!
I have fallen into the rabbit hole of podcasts.....love them and able to listen while I am at work. First looked for book podcasts and definitely wanted literary, not John Grisham reviews. I do like a palate cleanser once in a while or a cozy mystery, but my main diet is literary. When i first ran across yours, I have to admit the opening music turned me off and i did not give it a listen. I then heard you on the Modern Mrs. Darcy and delighted in your intelligence and wit, so went back to ITunes and subscribed and listened to all the back episodes. Now, I can't wait for the next new podcast. I have read many books you have reviewed and not been disappointed. I wanted to comment on todays poetry podcast. As a 64 year old, I wanted to mention two poets I love and an anthology I read in my Junior year of high school in my favorite Literature class . The poets are Rita Dove, poet laureate from 1993-95 and my favorite book of hers "Thomas and Beulah" which won the pulitzer in 1987. What drew me to her was that she was from Akron (I live in Tallmadge, which is right next door to Akron) and that particular book was about her grandparents and their lives in Akron. The second poet, also a woman, was Sylvia Plath, which I encountered while attending Kent State University in a literature class. Read everything of hers and many biographies. The poetry book was Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters and is the epitaphs of the townspeople of Spoon River. You, Annie are an incredible young woman. I commiserate with you as I once owned a retail home dec fabric store with custom workroom (drapery, bedding, etc.) and it is daunting to say the least!!! I also am an introvert and it became overwhelming to me and I sold it to a real people person, who is successfully running it and I am working now at Vera Wang Luxe, a workroom for Vera's custom, couture bridale gowns. Yes, in Akron, Ohio!!! Love it and I listen to podcasts and downloaded books all day as I'm sewing. If I lived in Thomasville, I would be a regular customer to all the wonderful events you host.....your two dinner parties I would have loved to have attended. Tell your parents for me they raised a wonderful gal, who married a wonderful guy and is now running a wonderful book store. Kudos to the rest of your staff also, enjoy hearing Chris too on the podcasts. This is very long, but have wanted to write for a long time and tonight was the night. Thank you Annie B. Chris and Annie have great book chemistry! Always a pleasure to listen to this podcast. I live out west but love feeling like a part of your Southern community a couple times a month.

Replete with excellent book recommendations, this podcast is intelligently hosted. In fact, the participants are so warm and welcoming and do such an excellent job that it makes me want to move to the community where this bookstore exists and buy books from no one else. This is technologically...Read full review »
