Tedious and trite
Occasionally interesting turns of phrase but far more that sounds forced and, at times, laughable when humor was not the intention. May have carried better if material wasn't being read by the author, who sounds a little too much "in love with his darlings" and whose nasally voice grates on the listener's ears. Don't bother starting...it goes nowhere.

...but I have to agree that it started out great -- first chapter is excellent -- but it is downhill from there. I'm only on Ch 5 tho....
