A somber day of remembrance was held at Pearl Harbor Tuesday morning, honoring the late Lou Conter, the last surviving crew member who was on board the USS Arizona during the attacks on Dec. 7, 1941. Hoards of hikers are hikers are risking citations and hazards to get in one last climb on the Stairway to Heaven after the city announced removal plans. In a news conference Monday, HPD said it’s cracking down on illegal hiking at the Haiku Stairs and warned people not to risk it. The suspect in an hours-long standoff with police last week in Waianae made his initial appearance in court Monday on multiple attempted murder charges. Howard Abraham, 50, has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of causing injury to a law enforcement animal after stabbing a police K-9 dog. Two people were seriously injured following a single-vehicle rollover crash on the H-3 Freeway Sunday night. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene on the H-3 westbound, near the Mokapu Boulevard overpass around 10:40 pm.
