An investigation is underway after heavily decomposed human remains were discovered on a property located in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision. Hawaii Island police said shortly before 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, detectives responded to the 92-8700 block of Lotus Blossom Lane in Ocean View after receiving a report of a decomposed body on the property. Retired HPD officer Rudy Alivado was back on the stand Wednesday for cross-examination in the high-profile bribery trial involving Honolulu’s former city prosecutor and employees of a politically-connected engineering firm. A somber day of remembrance was held at Pearl Harbor Tuesday morning, honoring the late Lou Conter, the last surviving crew member who was on board the USS Arizona during the attacks on Dec. 7, 1941. Hoards of hikers are hikers are risking citations and hazards to get in one last climb on the Stairway to Heaven after the city announced removal plans. In a news conference Monday, HPD said it’s cracking down on illegal hiking at the Haiku Stairs and warned people not to risk it.
