In this episode, I talk with Jeff Hamm from Kansas about the epic (and hilarious) story of his true 200” Whitetail Buck. The number of things that went wrong…and then so very right…and then wrong again to put this deer in his hands is nothing short of incredible. If you’re a bowhunter, I know you’ll feel his pain. To keep up with Jeff and his future hunting adventures, give him a follow on Instagram @jhamm2001 If you’re a newer hunter (or an experienced one just looking to make sure there...

In this episode, I sit down once again with my good friend Josh Kirchner from Dialed In Hunter to talk about his epic backcountry Spring bear hunt in Idaho this past season. Josh went deep into the Idaho backcountry and had plenty of encounters with these amazing Idaho bears. He also drops plenty of really helpful tips and tactics along the way, so if you weren’t planning on chasing Spring bears anytime soon, you almost certainly will be thinking about it by the time he’s done. To catch up...

This episode is a little bit different than usual. I had the extreme pleasure of talking with one of my all-time hunting heroes, Trent Fisher from Born and Raised Outdoors on their podcast - The Born & Raised Audio Experience. Trent was also kind enough to share the audio with me and encourage me to put it up on the Hunting Stories Podcast, so that’s what I’m sharing with you here. We talk about a couple of hunting stories, but also just have a great conversation about new hunters and...

On this episode, I’m joined by Connor from Maine Meat Collection as he shares the story of his first whitetail buck ever. On a whim, he reached out to a buddy and asked if he would take him deer hunting for the first time. The story that unfolds involves a massive buck, a sprinting doe in heat, a blood trailing dauchsund, and an all-day tracking job that pays off in a massive whitetail buck for this new deer hunter. To stay up on the hunting adventures of Connor and his buddies, give them a...

After four long years of trying to harvest an Arizona black bear with no shortage of disasters along the way, I finally connect on a Spring Bear with my buddy Josh from @dialedinhunter. Two different trips in two different units finally paid off on the last morning I was able to hunt. This bruin made us work for him and the way it all panned out was nothing short of epic! If you’re a newer hunter (or an experienced one just looking to make sure there aren’t any gaps in your hunting game),...

At the end of a very long hunting slump, I had just a couple evenings after Christmas to hunt mule deer with my bow. I went back to the farm where I had just been hunting with my family during rifle season to see if I could connect on one of the bucks still hanging around on the property. At the last moment of light on the last day I had to hunt, everything came together! If you’re a newer hunter (or an experienced one just looking to make sure there aren’t any gaps in your hunting game),...

My wife and oldest son are both aspiring hunters who have yet to harvest their first animal. In the fall of 2020 they both drew rifle deer tags in a unit that has a large alfalfa farm my wife’s family runs. We spent the weekend chasing bucks and living comfortably at a relative’s house…it’s truly the way to hunt with your family. Bucks were seen and shots were fired, so tune in to hear how it all went down. If you’re a newer hunter (or an experienced one just looking to make sure there aren’t...

This year I went back to the same general area I tried in 2019 to get some redemption on Colorado archery elk. My buddy Josh (@dialedinhunter) tagged along for the first part to finish out his high country mule deer tag. We camped higher, saw more action, and put in more physical hours of hunting than we did the previous year. Tons of great lessons learned and memories made! To stay up on everything going on, follow us @latetothegameoutdoors or check out the website. I’m also finishing...

This is the story of the 2020 early Fall bear season here in AZ. My buddy Josh (@dialedinhunter) and I went on a couple different hunts and really put in the work during a hot, dry, difficult year. Josh tagged out the day after I had to leave camp, and I returned solo the following weekend and had a ridiculously close call on a beautiful bruin. In this episode, I tell the story of my 2016 AZ Archery Elk Hunt. In one week of hunting I had more close calls on elk than I’ve ever had on any single hunt. Though I didn’t tag out, the lessons learned in that season definitely prepared me for the success I had the following year! As you may know, I am an adult-onset hunter. My first exposure to hunting came when I married into a hunting family, and my father-in-law gifted me an archery elk tag for Christmas. I knew absolutely nothing about what I needed to do or what to expect, but it’s an experience that has literally changed my life all these years later. When it comes to AZ Black Bears, I am cursed! On almost every single hunt, something crazy, unexpected, and completely outside my control happens to derail the hunt. It’s become consistent enough over the years that I’m starting to rethink my typical stance on superstitions. In this episode, I run through six different bear hunts that all resulted in a different disaster. In this episode I’m joined by my brother-in-law, Zach Fleming, to hear one of the CRAZIEST hunting stories ever! When Zach called me from Hawaii and told me what he had just experienced, I knew I had to get him on the podcast immediately. This is technically not a hunting story, but it is an outdoors story, it involves animals, and it’s actually quite helpful for anyone considering solo and/or backcountry hunting. About 10 years ago, I put together some basic gear and set out on my first ever solo backpacking trip. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so scared in my life, but that trip also did something deep within me that has been undeniably transformational. My life and hunting style have changed in a hundred ways since then,...

This is the story of my 3-Day solo hunting trip into the backcountry desert of AZ trying to fill my 2019 OTC archery deer tag on the last three days of the year. Today I’m joined by my buddy, Josh Kirchner, from Dialed-In-Hunter. Josh tells us the amazing story of his first ever archery bear harvest. This is the tragic tale of my 2020 Archery Javelina hunt, a bad shot, and a pig with more fight in him than I ever thought possible. This is the first time I’ve made a bad shot and tried to re-stalk a wounded animal, and the way it went down is nothing I ever expected. It’s highly possible that pig could actually fly. In this episode, I sit down with my friend and cameraman, Ben Crosby, to talk through the story of my first ever out of state hunt. This is actually the story of my first big game harvest ever! Sighting issues with a new rifle led to a massive comedy of errors, several missed bucks, and a whole lot of unnecessary running around.
