Do you see friends as disposable?
In this week's podcast episode, we listen to clips from a podcast with Simon Sinek (@simonsinek) on The Diary of a CEO Podcast (@thediaryofaceopodcast). Simon says that having good friends around you makes life worth living - it makes you more resilient to the struggles of life. We agree and discuss the nuances of being a good friend.
But sadly, we also found that two things are true:
We’re not good at making friends
Our culture tells us that family is stronger than blood and marriage is a covenant, but we often see friends as disposable
But the blood of Christ bonds us in a covenantal relationship.
How do we know how much to give of ourselves to our friends? From material things to time, energy, and emotion. We ask God for guidance and discernment! He wants us to lay down our lives for our friends, to serve them, as God calls.
John 15:13-15…Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
We seek God for what we should do AND we understand what they need (which we learn through IFLoWs).
