Great pod. Humboldt and Darwin. Plantago.
Love your pod. One gripe. No discussion of Darwin's ecological ideas are complete without a mention of Alexander von Humboldt, as Darwin was obsessed with him, and he basically invented ecology in the western world. My obsession is the plant genus Plantago, which is widely misunderstood and oversimplified. There are many native species in North America, contrary to what is widely thought, and many of the P. major images on the web are actually of the native P. rugelii. Plantago species are endemic throughout the world, from Australia to the peaks of Hawaii, and fill important roles in the ecology of the places they grow. Take for example P. erecta. Would you like to go into the magic of an overlooked genus? That would be great. I don't know who the expert would be, but I want to study these plants to the ends of the earth.Read full review »

This show is exciting and stimulating enough for experts/professionals, but explained so well that it is accessible and to everyone! What I find most inspiring are the chats with professors. Hearing their passion and the implications of the work they do really helps reinforce my own work.

I really appreciate this podcast. Matt is great at interviewing people and presenting information that is both accessible to people who may not have an extensive background in botany, yet still interesting to major plant nerds like myself. I always feel like I learn a ton!
