Normally love this podcast for its thoughtful insight, but this post US election edition was awful 15 mins of self justification from pollster and commentator with no insight and little challenge from the moderator. Not up to your usual high standard.

Enjoyed your most recent episode on budget and prisons.

Simply the best podcast on the internet. Fascinating, in-depth, politically impartial discussions around the mechanics of government from listenable, extremely well-informed presenters, all tied together by the brilliant Hannah White. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Very useful to hear the non-partisan analysis of the election debate. Glad to hear the lie about tax raises so vigorously disputed. Excellent podcast.

This programme would be so much better if impartial, balanced presenters delivered the debates.

Clearly the Left are scared of Boris. Boris did not destroy the Conservatives that was Sunak

Very repetitive at times but still very interesting.

Very disappointed in Anna’s ignorance re Scotland re health service, education etc. NHS figures always ahead of England, child poverty less, education in a par. As city editor you know no macro economics possible . Very poor

Calm, informative and intelligent. Super contributors with absolutely no willy waving. Digs deep with wide ranging discussion but never at a level that would leave me uncomprehending. Update on my review ….. Still listening many months later. I always come away feeling enlightened, cleverer...Read full review »

Consistently excellent episodes from the IfG folk supported by well chosen guests. You can learn far more from listening to this pod than you would from any political programmes on TV.

Just got into this podcast recently and seriously enjoying it. Only criticism is I want more!!! More! More! More!

Really like this podcast; it’s always terribly insightful and allows people who really seem to know about how politics works speak freely. The podcast is also brilliantly done, with the editing quality usually top notch.

A really interesting listen with a good variety of guests. The sound is not always great, episode 226 the sound is terrible very disappointed not to be able to listen to it. It lets this podcast down.

I want to love this as topics are great but the sound production is so poor it’s almost impossible to keep listening. Recent episode presenter sounded like they were talking from the bottom of the sea. Previous ones, every speaker at different levels of sound, so you either get shouted at or you...Read full review »

This felt like very young spads over coffee - Henry Newman telling us how Boris Johnson achieved so much..? Really??

Sorry to see you go Bronwen! Have appreciated the calm steer through all the issues of the week, and a lovely dry sense of humour through it. The whole podcast is insightful, far more engaging than I expected, and pitched at a brilliant level that teaches without heading too far into government...Read full review »

This episode merits no stars at all - Kyiv spelt wrong & a joke about chicken in the title? What this - bad parody of a Sun headline? Really low standard for a what is usually a quality series.

‘Afghanistan: Great game to blame game’ sheds much needed light on our government’s response, the lack of planning, the interdepartmental psycho-drama, what might have gone wrong with our raw intelligence, who might finally carry the can - and why. Well worth the listen.

It is remarkable how often we are told of the wonderful work civil servants are doing (growth of the civil service provides promotion opportunities!) whilst politicians are routinely disparaged for not being up to the job. Jill Rutter regularly treats the EU as competent when compared with the...Read full review »

This is a really good podcast, the issues are discussed in a way which allows engagement for those who do not follow politics closely. The host Bronwyn Maddox is very clear.

The best podcast I’ve found to get behind the headlines for nuanced, thoughtful and practical comment as to what’s actually happening and the reasons behind it. All the politics without the politicians. Authoritative and refreshing!

Some of the more lively, well-informed, and engaging talk on politics I’ve heard—mostly British, of course, but with broad implications everywhere: influence peddling and conflicts of interest, nations splitting apart...listen up, Americans!
kevingan52 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/09/21
Impeccably chaired by Bronwynn Maddox, this program always has rational, expert opinion on the weeks events and more. I particularly like the way they have access to senior civil servants and that they cover the spectrum of the political left to right.

...for the in-depth, no-nonsense style of debate and questioning. Please keep it up and hold your political interviewees feet to the fire.

Excellent podcast involving highly informed contributors with discussions superbly chaired by Bronwyn Maddox. Never slips into the self preening partizanship of certain other productions. 5 stars
