I have listened to so many of the video editing podcasts, Once Upon a Timeline is the only one I take seriously. Yes, Paddy does promote his online classes but there is so much to be gained from listening to these episodes. He is giving first hand, very personal viewpoints on some of the more...Read full review »

Paddy Bird is a brilliant teacher. His Inside the edit course and bootcamps are vital resources for anyone interested in editing. This podcast is a continuation of that. If you’re interested in editing, this podcast will teach you a lot. I love it.

This is a sensational podcast. Thank you, Paddy, for your erudite, thoughtful, and fascinating way of presenting editing. I teach film and so am not directly involved with cutting on a regular basis but I find your insight invaluable in how I discuss and encourage my students to think about...Read full review »

Thank you Paddy for the generous sharing with all of us: current and aspiring craft editors!

Padding, double-talk, unedited circular wandering. The host has been talking for 15 minutes already in the ‘shot selection’ episode and hasn’t. talked. (really) about. shot selection. Maybe he’s stretching due to lack of actual content but even if that’s the case a shorter ep. would be a...Read full review »

In this episode, we learned about the characters and how we can get perfect shots from the beginning of the editing before even starting our editing on the timeline. Because we are most of the time filmmakers, camera operators and directors, inside the edit — is the best place to gain your...Read full review »

The concentration on creativity and the art of editing/film production, rather than equipment and software, makes this the most useful and helpful podcast that I have found. I look forward to every episode.

As an experienced editor who is self taught. Like most of us. Hearing Paddy vocalise the the unspoken craft and skills which I’ve developed over the years is not only reassuring but cements this knowledge. Paddy is absolutely right - the vast majority of guidance online is instructions for technical procedures or heavily gear-focussed, with little wisdom from real professional experience. This feels like a gem. Wish I’d understood this kind of stuff 10 years ago.

Thanks Paddy for yet another superb product, the podcast is full of wisdom. It’s amazing to get into the mind of a professional editor and discover their thought process. And I love the fact that you invite such profound editors to share their stories.

This podcast is a gift. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of it. If you’re looking for a podcast about editing theory then you’ve found it. It doesn’t matter what NLE you cut on, but rather it’s all about how you cut and why you cut.

Once Upon a Timeline should be the first stop on an editor’s journey to becoming a professional artist. The podcast is exactly as Paddy says, a show about the craft of editing. Anyone can learn the software, but that is about 10% of what an editor does. The craft is what’s important, and that...Read full review »

If you’re looking to learn the creative art of editing then this is it. I’ve learnt more in these two episodes about this amazing art form then hours of courses online. It does help that Paddy has been doing this for 20 + years.. Great podcast! - Dean, South Wales, UK

Very compelling content and subjects presented... no fluff... You may want to consult with an audio engineer/mixer as there is what seems like over-processing done to the audio (some muddiness in the mid-range freqs and some very annoying sibilance). All of this is easily fixed... Cheers!
