Great work. Thought I knew about the rise of neoliberalism in NZ but this really explains it and all that happened around in. Highly recommend for all in Aotearoa.

You could make this a 20 part series if you wanted. Six great episodes. I couldn’t wait for it to finish so I could go back to the start and listen again.

A really gripping, well-researched podcast delving into the history and politics of 1980’s New Zealand government - an era that changed forever the way politics and New Zealand life was to become. Toby Manhire does a splendid job narrating us through the time and interviews all the (still...Read full review »

This is an excellent podcast for anyone who wants to examine what happened around the 1984 election and understand the 4th Labour government. This was the government that I remember as a primary school and then intermediate student when I first became aware of politics. David Lange, the Rainbow...Read full review »

Really enjoying this. A great analysis of those events, 40 years ago. Great to hear the voices, past and present, of those involved.

This is a fantastic series for folks like me who remember changes happening but were too busy to pay attention or understand the seismic shift that was happening … amazing to hear Lange’s speeches and having the heartbreaking sense of hearing - at this stage of the podcast (episode 4) - someone...Read full review »

This podcast is one of the best I have listened to. Incredibly well written and produced. It was an era in politics I remember vividly. It’s great to hear the background info of the events of that time. Keep it up.

We were living in New Plymouth with two small children, at the heart of Think Big and my husband’s career impacted by the restructuring of the electricity sector. I remember thinking then and sense that the social contract we had grown up with had irrevocably changed. This is bringing that all back.

Captures a fascinating time in New Zealand’s history. This podcast is cleverly put together and packed with different perspectives, both from 1984 and reflections back on that time. Really enjoyed the first episode and looking forward to more.

The 1984 snap election is what turned 8-year-old me on to politics for the first time. My parents were teachers at the local school that doubled as the rural community’s polling station, and they both worked as election officials on that day. I can still remember being left home under the...Read full review »
