“Excellent podcast! JB gives a *thorough* explination of the subject of each episode, but my favorite part of it is the "context-setters" he gives in the first 10 minutes or so. I've seen 1 or 2 other reviewers complain about these, but I think they're wonderful because they give the average Joe a context to plug in the information JB is giving... they bring the history home to a mordern, pop-cultural understanding and make it relevant. JB's context setters are very refreshing, too! It always has me ending with "Huh, I wouldn't have thought of it that way" or "That's so clear! Now I understand why..."
In short, not only is this podcast an excellent review of recent history (love the stuff on game-changers, myself), but it's an excellent place to draw back from the popularly-accepted interpretation of history to see the actual events *and* the principles that drove those events (and perhaps still do!).
